10 AM pick up at Hotel Hvide Hus

Your guide on this unique tour of Aalborg – the capital of North Denmark – is Bitten Holmsgaard, authorized local guide and member of Rebild National Park Society. She has put together this tour especially for Rebild National Park Society members. As a guest on the tour, you will experience Bitten’s own favorite places, see secret spots that tourists never find, and be entertained by storytelling of the highest caliber.
During the tour we delve into more than 1,000 years of history. From the Vikings to modern street art. From medieval monasteries to modern architecture on the stunning new waterfront.
We’ll visit the amazing Lindholm Høje, one of the most beautiful monuments of the Viking Age in Scandinavia. Here you can really feel the winds of history as you look over the 700 stone-encircled tombs from the Viking Age.
During the tour we also enjoy the view over the Limfjord, take a look inside Aalborg’s beautiful new House of Music, pass two medieval monasteries, hear about the city’s witches and see some of the modern murals for which Aalborg has become so famous in recent years that the city is called the street art capital of Denmark.
As we say here in Denmark “without food and drink the hero does not last.” So in the middle of the tour we sit down to enjoy a typical Danish lunch. The restaurant has been carefully chosen, as it is named after Isidor Henius, who is considered the most important person for the development of Danish aquavit production. And it is aquavit that has put Aalborg on the world map
For members of the Rebild National Park Society Isidor Henius is also important, as his son, Max, was one of the founders of the 4th of July celebrations in Rebild.
The tour is partly by bus and partly on foot. Expect about 3-4 kilometres of walking during the day.
Included in the tour:
Danish and English speaking local guide.
Entrance to Lindholm Høje Museum.
Entrance to the ruins of Gråbrødreklostret.
Lunch at Hos Henius – 2 typical Danish open sandwiches, 1 large draught beer/1 glass of wine/1 soft drink and 1 glass of Aalborg Aquavit schnapps.
The tour runs by min. 8 participants. Max 20 participants.
